$15-17/hour, part-time, 20-25 hrs per week, includes one evening and 2 Sat per month
The Schoolcraft Community Library is a Class I library with a service population of just under 4,000. The library was first established as a community-funded entity in 1989 and continues to grow. SCCL is seeking a personable, enthusiastic individual to join us on our journey.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Create, schedule, execute, promote and/or oversee all Youth programs. These include but are not limited to Preschool Story Hours, Tot Time, kindergarten outreach, Summer Reading, after school programs and Children’s Book Week.
Provide outreach in the form of literacy events, classroom visits, story times and other programs to Schoolcraft Schools. Seek to have a good working relationship with the area school system by collaborating with them, when possible, for programming, fundraising and community building.
Purchase and prepare or arrange for the purchase and preparation of all materials needed for these programs.
Assist with fundraising efforts to support these programs by seeking sponsors for financial support or incentives as needed for programs.
Plan, create and produce publicity for youth programs—includes social media, flyers, newsletters, and signage etc.
Stay current in new library services and trends in youth services through reading, seminars, workshops, webinars, and conferences.
Routinely seek out and identify sources for grant funding opportunities.
Help select books and materials for the youth department.
Maintain youth collections with weeding and discarding damaged or infrequently used materials.
Instruct and supervise those volunteers or youth that are assigned to the Youth Department.
Keep current with developments in technology, as specifically applied to young adult and children’s services.
Work at the circulation desk according to schedule.

Minimum qualifications:
Education: Prefer classes or a degree in Elementary Education or equivalent education experience.
Requirements:
Must have experience working with youth
Must have strong attention to detail
Must have dependable and flexible work habits
Must have basic technology competency skills along with knowledge of digital resources
Must be comfortable with social media platforms including Facebook, TikTok and Instagram
Positive, proactive customer-oriented attitude
