SCHOOLCRAFT COMMUNITY LIBRARY HONORS VOLUNTEER MARY VERHAGE
![]() |
At a reception attended by staff, board members and Friends of the Library, the Schoolcraft Community
Library Board of Directors honored former board member and volunteer Mary VerHage.
Mary had served as an active board member and volunteer for the past 15 years for the Schoolcraft
Community Library. She served as the board representative for the Prairie Ronde Township and volunteered
in many ways to make the library a better place. She served on the Building and Grounds Committee
as well as the Finance Committee and volunteered at many of the events sponsored by the library as
well as the Friends of the Library. Mary was also instrumental in making possible the implementation
of an automated circulation system for the library, which had been a dream they realized in 2001.
Mary served as the Treasurer for the Schoolcraft Friends of the Library for many years as well.
A bench is located at the library in Mary's honor, with plaques both placed on the bench and in the library indicating Mary's years of service. Nancy Rafferty, former board president, presented a personalized plaque to Mary and spoke of her many accomplishments, while serving on the board. The bench was unveiled at the reception and is placed under a tree for everyone to enjoy for many years to come. |

The Schoolcraft Community Library Board is currently working on updating its Policy Manual and has recently passed a new Internet Use Policy for patrons at the library. In effect as of March 26th, 2008, the Internet Use policy now states that a current library card or a piece of Government issued identification (ie., Driver's license, voter's registration card, a student ID., etc.) must be presented to use the internet. Also, if you are under 18 years of age, a parent's signature will be required to access the Internet. Wireless Internet access is also available at the library and though ID is not required to access this service, the library does require a patron signature after reading the Wireless Internet Policy and to abide by those same guidelines as those using library computers. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the library at 679-5959. |
